Preview of the Mainova AG Case Study

A More Profitable Market Position For Mainova With Flexible Operations, Enabled By Opflex Solution

Mainova AG, one of Germany’s largest regional energy suppliers, needed to lower minimum part load, reduce fuel costs and increase maximum power output while staying emissions-compliant in a competitive electricity market. GE Digital addressed the challenge by deploying its Operations Optimization solution on Mainova’s Frankfurt 6B gas turbine, including GE control software technologies AutoTune, Turndown, Variable Peak and Smart Inlet Bleed Heat (IBH).

With GE Digital’s solution, Mainova AG expanded its emissions‑compliant operating range from 60–100% to 40–110% load, achieved a 60% turndown to 40% load and realized about 2% fuel savings during part‑load operation. The upgrades let Mainova set emissions limits and let the turbine govern peak performance, improving market competitiveness and overall profitability.
