A GDI Ainsworth Case Study
CIUSSS du Centre-Ouest-de-l’Île-de-Montréal (CIUSSS CODIM), a major healthcare network in Montreal, faced significant challenges with aging, energy-intensive infrastructure across its nine facilities. The complexity of modernizing these active hospital environments while maintaining uninterrupted essential services was heightened by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Partnering with ESCO GDI Ainsworth, the goal was to significantly reduce GHG emissions and energy costs through a self-financed energy performance contract.
GDI Ainsworth implemented a comprehensive turnkey solution featuring 47 energy efficiency measures, including LED lighting, boiler room modernization, steam-to-hot-water conversion, new automation systems, and heat recovery technology. This project resulted in a 49% reduction in annual GHG emissions (6,173 tons of CO₂) and generated $1.3 million in annual energy savings, which self-financed the $16.4 million investment. The work by GDI Ainsworth also dramatically improved operational reliability and occupant comfort across the healthcare network.
