A GDI Ainsworth Case Study
BC Place, a major stadium in Vancouver, required a complete modernization of its outdated building control systems to meet the demands of hosting the 2010 Winter Olympics. This challenge was compounded by a structural transformation from an air-supported dome to a traditional structure. GDI Ainsworth was engaged to provide a comprehensive redesign of the HVAC and DDC systems to improve environmental control and operational efficiency.
GDI Ainsworth implemented a full overhaul, which included a centralized BMS platform, new exhaust systems, a lighting retrofit, and the integration of over 4,600 DDC points. The solution featured advanced strategies like infrared field temperature monitoring and natural ventilation controls using automated roof louvres. This modernization by GDI Ainsworth elevated BC Place into a premier multi-purpose venue, significantly enhancing guest comfort through consistent environmental conditions and improving energy efficiency.
