Saint Joseph’s School for the Blind builds accessible games with GDevelop in 4 years

Saint Joseph’s School for the Blind had students who enjoyed playing video games like Temple Run but faced a significant challenge: the need for assistance with controls made it impossible for them to play independently due to their visual impairments. Volunteer developer Nidhi Sakpal identified this issue and sought a game engine to create an accessible audio-based game, despite having no prior game development experience. She turned to the vendor, GDevelop, to build the solution.

Using GDevelop's user-friendly, open-source platform, Nidhi was able to quickly learn the software and develop an audio-based 2D platformer called 'Pea's Journey'. The engine’s intuitive interface, extensive resources, and helpful online tutorials enabled her to create a game designed for independent play by the visually impaired. The successful implementation of GDevelop resulted in a functional prototype that aims to provide an inclusive gaming experience and inspire other creators to prioritize accessibility.
