Funcom launches Dune: Awakening to 189,000 concurrent players with Gcore

Funcom, a leading developer of online multiplayer games, faced the challenge of delivering a smooth, low-latency launch for its new game Dune: Awakening to its large player base in South America. The studio needed high-performance infrastructure capable of handling real-time gameplay and matchmaking while also providing resilience against DDoS attacks. To meet these demands, Funcom partnered with Gcore.

Gcore deployed its Bare Metal Servers and Managed Kubernetes to provide the high-frequency compute power and orchestration needed for the game's backend services. This was combined with Gcore's built-in DDoS protection to secure the launch. The solution enabled a highly successful launch, with the game reaching the top ten on Steam within 24 hours and peaking at 189,000 concurrent players by the end of the first week. Gcore's infrastructure allowed Funcom to deliver a high-quality experience in a traditionally underserved region.
