Preview of the Wireless Carriers Company Case Study

Design and Deployment of 3GPP Compliant CUPS Implementation of SGW/PGW/SAEGW

GAVS Technologies worked with Wireless Carriers Company, one of the largest wireless carriers in the United States with more than 100 million subscribers, to design and deploy a 3GPP-compliant CUPS implementation of SGW/PGW/SAEGW. The customer needed to separate control plane and user plane functions in line with newer 3GPP standards and also wanted the solution to be open sourced for broader use in private LTE and edge deployments.

GAVS Technologies built an open source gateway from the ground up, implementing TS 29.244 Sx, TS 29.212 Gx, and DNS-based discovery per TS 29.303, along with a high-performance DPDK-based user plane and deployment support across bare metal, VMs, private cloud, and public cloud. The result was a first-of-its-kind open source 4G core reference architecture compliant with 3GPP CUPS, enabling independent scaling of control and user planes, simpler centralized or edge deployment, and a reusable implementation for other telecom players.
