Piedmont Middle School engages 5 middle school teachers and 41,000 UCPS students with GameSalad

Piedmont Middle School sought a way to engage its middle school students in computer science and prepare them for success in high school CTE pathways. The school needed a tool that would spark excitement for coding and be accessible to all learners. They implemented GameSalad's visual programming platform in their "Exploring Computer Science" course to achieve this.

Using GameSalad, students successfully created their own video games, which fostered a collaborative and highly engaging learning environment. The solution empowered students to learn at their own pace, with advanced students being sufficiently challenged and becoming classroom leaders. GameSalad's project-based curriculum and the teacher's "Shark Tank" competitions resulted in heightened student creativity, peer-to-peer teaching, and a demonstrable surge in excitement for programming, as observed when students from other electives saw the games created.
