Case Study: World Bank Group advances global financial inclusion tracking with Gallup Global Findex research

A Gallup Case Study

Preview of the World Bank Group Case Study

The World Bank Monitors Progress on Financial Inclusion

The World Bank Group faced a challenge in systematically measuring global financial inclusion, as it previously relied on incomplete data to understand how adults save, borrow, and manage risk. To support its mission of reducing poverty, it partnered with Gallup to create a comprehensive dataset. Gallup provided its expertise in global public opinion research to address this need.

Gallup implemented the solution by conducting extensive, nationally representative surveys in over 140 economies every three years to build the Global Findex database. This provided the World Bank with critical data to track financial inclusion. The measurable impact was significant; Gallup's data showed that 1.2 billion adults had obtained a bank account since 2011. The database has been downloaded over 100,000 times and is used to track major global development goals for the UN and G20.
