A Gallup Case Study

How Wellbeing Is Advancing the Volunteer Spirit at UT

The University of Tennessee wanted to make it easier for students to navigate campus resources and improve their academic success, confidence, and wellbeing. Working with Gallup, the university used CliftonStrengths for Students as part of a broader effort to support first-year and transfer students.

Gallup helped UT launch Vol Success Teams, a coordinated support network that paired students with academic coaches, advisors, counselors, and mentors, while using CliftonStrengths to create a common language for coaching and self-awareness. The results included 97% of first-year students discovering their CliftonStrengths, 7,334 academic coaching sessions in 2020-2021 versus 3,758 the prior year, and stronger outcomes for coached students, who earned a higher average term GPA of 3.28 compared with 2.99 for those who did not.
