Local government museum expands access to their collections through online sharing

Southwark Culture & Heritage Services needed to replace a paper-based cataloguing system and meet government requirements for broader public access by publishing its collections online. To support multi-site staff access, conservation workflows, searchable cross-collection discovery, and integration with other systems, they selected Gallery Systems’ The Museum System (TMS) and eMuseum.

Gallery Systems implemented TMS and eMuseum to deliver searchable online collections, WCAG AA–compliant web publishing, and visitor tools like “My Collections.” The new system transformed workflows—staff can now view object images at their desks rather than spending about an hour retrieving items—improved exhibition planning and object tracking, and expanded public access to works in storage, increasing operational efficiency and community engagement.
