A Gallery Systems Case Study
Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums faced rising public demand and government expectations for wider access to their collections and needed to replace a legacy database with a publicly accessible system that could handle fine art, applied art, archaeology and maritime records. They selected Gallery Systems to provide a collection management and web-publishing solution using The Museum System (TMS) and eMuseum to consolidate collections across departments, expose large photographic and ship-plan holdings online, and train staff to customize and report from the system.
Gallery Systems implemented TMS with data conversion, automated image import, staff training and eMuseum for web publication; the result was a secure, flexible collection-management environment with near-real-time online publishing as registrars enter records. Aberdeen Art Gallery and Museums now offer extensive online access (including the ability to order prints), create curated “Highlights” packages, generate custom reports, and report improved collection management and enhanced public access thanks to Gallery Systems’ solution.
