Welsh Government Enlists Gaist to Help Implement National 20mph Speed Limit

The Welsh Government faced the challenge of implementing a national 20mph speed limit on over 13,000 km of roads. This large-scale project required a complete and accurate understanding of the existing road infrastructure, including all signage and markings, to be delivered on an ambitious schedule and within budget without causing major disruption. To overcome this, they enlisted Gaist for its high-definition roadscape survey and data services.

Gaist rapidly conducted a nationwide survey, working with 19 local authorities to capture and deliver all required asset condition and location data within six months. The data, underpinned by HD 360-degree imagery, was provided directly to the authorities, enabling them to commence upgrade works confidently and on time. As a result, the Welsh Government was able to successfully begin implementation of the new speed limit, with Gaist's accurate data ensuring the project's efficiency and success on a massive scale.
