A Gaist Case Study
Stockport Metropolitan Borough Council partnered with Gaist to support its Highway Investment Programme, launched in 2014 to tackle deterioration across a large network of carriageways and footways. The Council needed a more detailed and scalable way to assess road condition, prioritise maintenance, and balance planned works with growing reactive repair demand, beyond the limitations of its earlier survey approach.
Gaist’s Professional Services team implemented a simple condition-grading methodology for footways and carriageways, with GIS-based colour mapping and a forecasting model to track progress and support forward planning. The solution helped Stockport improve resource allocation and monitor performance across wards, with measurable gains in network condition: carriageway indicators improved from 18.6% in 2013/14 to 12.81% in 2019/20, and footways from 20.1% to 11.22%.
