BridgeCat - Customer Case Study

BridgeCat, a partnership involving the Department for Transport and Cumbria County Council, faced the challenge of assessing and repairing hundreds of bridges severely damaged by winter storms, an issue that left many communities isolated. To address this resilience challenge, they partnered with vendor Gaist to utilize a sophisticated mobile bridge inspection system.

The solution implemented by Gaist employed sonar, an underwater camera, and sensors to accurately measure the scouring and damage caused by floodwater on bridge foundations. As a result of this innovative approach, the BridgeCat project was awarded the 2018 New Civil Engineer TechFest Judge’s Supreme award and has continued to receive widespread recognition for significantly improving inspection capabilities and community resilience.
