Te Manatū Waka, New Zealand’s Ministry of Transport, needed a better way to build internal foresight capabilities and prepare for long-term disruption across the transport sector. With Futures Platform’s digital foresight tool, the ministry aimed to move from ad hoc futures work to a more collective, organization-wide approach that could support strategy, legislation reviews, and generational investment planning.

Futures Platform helped Te Manatū Waka run collective trend scouting, surveys, and scenario work around supply chains, aviation, and search and rescue, drawing on the platform’s trend database, radars, and scenario narratives. The ministry surveyed over 300 stakeholders and achieved a 45% response rate, then used the findings to shape trend reports and inform a National Freight & Supply Chain Strategy; the work also increased internal interest in foresight and saved time versus reading long external reports.
