Coast Electric Power Association Enhances Restoration in Mississippi’s “Thunderstorm Alley” with Futura’s Integrated AVL and OMS

Coast Electric Power Association, serving Mississippi’s Gulf Coast in “Thunderstorm Alley,” faced a growing challenge from frequent lightning and severe weather that drove more outages and made it harder to coordinate crews across a larger, mixed rural and urban service area. To improve outage response and keep workers safe, the utility looked for a more visual, faster way to communicate and dispatch field teams using Futura Systems’ GIS/OMS tools.

Futura Systems implemented an integrated AVL and OMS solution, adding real-time truck location data to Coast Electric’s outage map so dispatchers could see outages, vehicles, notes, and switching in one place. The result was quicker decision-making, faster routing and restoration, improved safety and communications, fewer phone calls to track crew status, and smoother implementation overall. Coast Electric said the system helped restore power faster for members and was one of the easiest technology implementations they had experienced.
