IoT company picks FusionAuth to avoid getting distracted by auth

Ampio Smart Home, an IoT company building a distributed smart‑home cloud platform, needed a production‑ready, self‑hosted identity solution so its engineers could focus on core product features instead of building complex auth flows. They chose FusionAuth to provide OAuth, social sign‑on, user management, groups, consent handling, localization and MFA without relying on a SaaS provider.

FusionAuth was deployed as a custom Docker image behind a reverse proxy and extended via theming, APIs, webhooks and a password‑hashing plugin to handle Ampio’s legacy credentials and consent workflows. The result: Ampio avoided reimplementing OAuth/front‑end auth flows, simplified user migration and consent collection, accelerated integration with external services (e.g., Google Assistant/Alexa), and saved substantial development time — benefits the team attributes to FusionAuth’s out‑of‑the‑box features, extensibility and developer‑friendly support.
