A Fusebox Case Study
Kunda Nordic Tsement, an Estonian cement and gravel producer, faced significant challenges due to rising energy costs and CO2 emission allowance prices, threatening its competitiveness. Seeking to maximize financial returns from its flexible electricity consumption, the company partnered with vendor Fusebox to optimize the operation of its 210 kW quarry water pump system.
Fusebox implemented a solution using its software and a virtual power plant to automatically control the pumps based on real-time electricity market prices and grid balancing signals. This allowed the pumps to operate primarily during the cheapest hours and be stopped during expensive periods. The results were substantial, with Fusebox's solution saving 15% on the monthly energy bill, generating €7,776 in revenue in one quarter by regulating 63.5 MWh of load, and reducing annual CO2 emissions by 120 tonnes, all without affecting core business operations.
