How Fusebox's VPP software assists Greece's largest utility in phasing out lignite for more sustainable power production

The largest power generation company in Greece, which is also the country's sole electricity distributor, sought to become a more financially and environmentally sustainable modern utility. This involved the significant challenge of phasing out lignite and optimizing its complex, diverse energy portfolio. To meet its goals, the utility partnered with Fusebox to implement its Virtual Power Plant (VPP) software to enhance grid stability and streamline energy management.

Fusebox implemented its VPP solution to build a Demand Response portfolio, extending services to smaller and medium-sized businesses. The collaboration included providing manual Frequency Restoration Reserve (mFRR) capabilities, comprehensive training, and ongoing operational support. As a result, Fusebox helped the utility create multiple independent portfolios, significantly expand its market reach to SMEs, and achieve a substantial shift towards green energy, reducing reliance on large, polluting power stations.
