A Fulcrum Case Study
Rodriguez Consulting, a regional engineering and geospatial services firm, was hired by the Philadelphia Water Department to inventory and document inactive high-pressure fire service (HPFS) hydrants slated for removal. The challenge was to accurately locate each hydrant and assess potential construction impacts to pavement, ADA ramps, and street furniture across a 56‑mile system that had been decommissioned decades earlier.
Rodriguez built a custom Fulcrum app, imported existing GIS basemaps, and equipped field teams with iPads to collect locations, photos, and attributes in real time, then synced data to the cloud for daily QA/QC using Fulcrum’s dashboard and Google Earth streaming. Over four weeks two two-person teams inspected more than 1,000 hydrants across 56+ miles, delivering a user-friendly dataset that let decision makers view hydrant locations, photos, and impact assessments from a single system.
