Case Study: Century Engineering achieves centralized, real-time railroad asset management with Fulcrum

A Fulcrum Case Study

Preview of the Century Engineering Case Study

Engineers and technologists collaborating to provide comprehensive asset management solutions

Century Engineering, a full-service engineering consulting firm, partnered with the Delaware Department of Transportation’s Railroad Program to manage and maintain 500+ railroad crossings statewide. DelDOT needed a reliable, auditable system to ensure crossings met federal and state regulations (ADA, MUTCD), to track physical assets and warning devices, to handle public complaints and incidents, and to coordinate/monitor construction — challenges that were difficult to manage with legacy paper-based workflows.

Century built a Fulcrum-based Railroad Program Management System (RPMS) combining mobile data capture, a central database, APIs and web apps (CARTO, AngularJS, D3) for real-time visibility. The solution enabled statewide asset inventories, incident reporting, and digital construction monitoring, resulting in inventorying 600+ crossings, 700+ warning devices, 3,600+ equipment/signs, 1,200+ hours of construction tracked and 15,000+ photos collected. Benefits included centralized, real-time data for faster decision-making, improved accountability and reporting, and elimination of paper processes.
