A Fulcrum Case Study
A major gas utility in the northeastern United States faced a daunting PSC mandate to physically inspect roughly 2.1 million residential and commercial gas meters and prove completion by April 2020 after a series of deadly explosions. With no standardized process, manual coordination leading to duplicated work, and an expensive multi-year internal solution proposed by a contractor, the utility needed a fast, affordable digital workflow to locate, inspect, photograph, and report every meter.
Sequel cleaned and standardized the utility’s data, built a Fulcrum-based inspection app and a custom bulk-dispatch tool called Maestro that syncs via API, and integrated OCR for automatic meter-plate capture plus IVR/SMS appointment scheduling. After rapidly training 500 techs and subcontractors, the utility gained standardized, verifiable inspections, faster routing and fewer duplicate visits, better subcontractor visibility for KPIs and billing, and higher customer satisfaction — enabling them to meet the PSC requirements and streamline ongoing operations.
