Smartsheet’s journey to creating an equitable employee experience

Smartsheet, a Bellevue-based enterprise work management company with 4,200+ employees, wanted to improve employee development and create a more equitable experience across the organization. As the company grew, internal feedback showed that employees wanted more opportunities to build skills, see career paths, and move ahead internally, and the lack of development options was contributing to attrition and low engagement.

To address this, Smartsheet implemented Fuel50’s AI talent marketplace, including Development, Coach, Skills Ontology, and Skills Architecture. The company used a phased rollout that moved from three months to three weeks after early adopters responded enthusiastically, and Fuel50 was then embedded into onboarding, leadership training, employee courses, and performance materials. The results included a 73% satisfaction rating, 7,312 skills assessed, and 24,606 career engagers assessed, along with stronger mentorship connections and greater visibility into growth opportunities across the business.
