How UCI Increased Employee Retention with Fuel50’s Talent Marketplace

University of California, Irvine, part of the University of California system, wanted to improve retention and support employee growth after engagement and culture surveys showed that staff wanted more career development opportunities. UCI faced a challenge in matching employees to relevant internal opportunities and building a more skills-based talent development strategy.

UCI implemented Fuel50’s science-based Talent Marketplace, including Gigs, Mobility, and Development, and rolled it out in phases with personalization, Career Journeys, Mentoring, and Learn features. With Fuel50, UCI reported a 50% reduction in attrition, a 74% returning user rate, and a 4% turnover rate compared with an industry average of 13-15%, while also helping employees explore internal roles and development paths more easily.
