Renascent Foundation, the fundraising arm of Renascent — an accredited national leader in addiction treatment since 1970 — faced a life-or-death challenge as opioid-related overdoses surged and publicly funded residential treatment waitlists in Ontario stretched four to eight months. Those delays left the most vulnerable people at extreme risk, and Renascent needed a way to rapidly move high‑risk clients from waitlists into care.

In May 2018 Renascent launched the THIS CAN'T WAIT initiative, a privately funded bursary program that raised nearly $400,000 to cover full residential treatment and outpatient continuing care for 36 individuals and their families.
