ETM Professional Control, a Siemens company and developer of the PVSS SCADA system used in critical infrastructure and at CERN, faced the challenge of ensuring thorough, reliable GUI test coverage for a large, mostly C++/Qt codebase deployed across many OSes. ETM needed a Qt-capable testing tool that could support security‑certified components (IEC 61508 SIL 3) and remain robust as both their product and the test tool evolved — a need they addressed by selecting froglogic’s Squish for Qt in early 2007.

froglogic delivered Squish as the automated GUI testing solution, which ETM integrated into their toolchain (alongside Rational PurifyPlus and internal frameworks) to run daily test suites across Windows, Linux and Solaris. Squish’s robustness, extensibility (wrapper library and source access for applying patches), and responsive support enabled ETM to maintain tests through many releases; the result was measurable: sustained daily test reliability, greatly improved test coverage, better use of human resources and higher product quality attributable to froglogic’s Squish.
