Winckley Square Community Interest Company restores gardens with Freshfield’s help and secures £1.2m

The customer, Winckley Square Community Interest Company (WSCIC), faced the challenge of restoring the neglected Winckley Square gardens in Preston, which were in a state of decline due to lack of investment. The vendor, Freshfield, became involved when one of its directors helped co-found the WSCIC to address this issue. Freshfield provided pro-bono support in company formation and strategic communications.

Freshfield's solution involved helping to establish the WSCIC, create its brand identity, and manage all public relations and communications. This support contributed to a successful £1.2 million funding bid and a transformational restoration of the gardens. The measurable impact includes the gardens receiving a Green Flag Award in 2018 and the project acting as a catalyst for further local regeneration, including new residential and commercial developments. Freshfield's role was noted as part of a highly successful private-public partnership.
