Wireless Solar-Powered Perimeter Security Company Deploys M2M Communications Network

Solarbeam International builds solar-powered wireless perimeter intrusion detection systems and, after Hurricane Andrew, needed to replace hard-wired, trench-dependent installations with a flexible, remotely manageable solution. The company required dependable wireless communications that could operate in harsh, remote locations, integrate video and diagnostics, and enable fast identification of equipment or security issues.

To solve this, Solarbeam developed software and deployed FreeWave’s M2M radios (FGR2-IOS) on each solar tower, enabling real-time monitoring of sensors, solar and battery voltages, and overall tower health — including applications like roadside animal detection. The result is 24/7, reliable perimeter and asset monitoring with immediate alerts for maintenance needs, proven performance in inclement conditions, and a fraction of the cost of comparable fiber-optic installations.
