A FreeWave Case Study
Washington County Water Conservancy District (WCWCD) and the St. George Water Services Department manage reservoirs, wells and distribution for St. George, Utah. Facing hundreds of scattered I/O points across varied terrain, the city needed a more reliable, real-time SCADA-capable network to collect accurate data and manage the full water cycle efficiently.
St. George implemented a wireless M2M backbone using FreeWave HT-Plus Ethernet radios as the core and cost-effective RGRIO/FGR radios with ModBus for single and low I/O satellite sites, with PLCs bridging serial devices into the TCP/IP backbone. The result is a resilient network spanning more than 100 linear miles with 200+ sites and thousands of I/O points (mixing utility and solar power), reduced need to replace field hardware, and cost-sharing agreements (MOUs) that let neighboring agencies securely share the backbone.
