Turns to Siemens and FreeWave for Efficient Oil and Gas Remote Monitoring

Rocky Mountain Communication Systems (RMCS), a division of Rocky Mountain Oilfield Warehouse that implements M2M telemetry and wireless data communications across the Rocky Mountain region, was asked by a major oil producer to overhaul remote monitoring for widely dispersed well sites. The challenge was to deliver reliable, accurate real-time monitoring and control over rugged terrain and long distances (often more than 13 miles) while keeping the solution affordable and quick to deploy after legacy equipment proved impractical to adapt.

RMCS partnered with Siemens and FreeWave to deploy a robust Ethernet backbone using Siemens SIMATIC S7-200 PLCs and HMIs alongside FreeWave HTPlus, FGRplus and FGR radios (serial/Ethernet compatible). The joint solution eliminated legacy integration complexity, significantly lowered total cost of ownership compared with previous radios, improved reliability in harsh weather, and provided tunable timing and high-performance remote monitoring and SCADA capabilities.
