University of Wyoming - Customer Case Study

The University of Wyoming’s Applied AI Lab needed a better way to help ranchers respond to grasshopper infestations with expert, practical guidance. Working with Franz Inc., the team used Allegro CL for Windows to build CARMA, a case-based advisory system that could capture and apply the knowledge of experienced entomologists and pest managers.

Franz Inc. helped deliver a PC-based application with an intuitive interface, GIS maps, species images, and symbolic reasoning capabilities. CARMA combines case-based, rule-based, and model-based reasoning to recommend economically and environmentally sound responses, and it was funded by public grants and deployed free of charge in every county across Wyoming.
