University of Washington's Prism Helps Radiation Oncologists Assess Best Treatment Plans for Cancer Patients

The University of Washington's Radiation Oncology Department required a system to help clinicians define the optimal radiation treatment plan for cancer patients from billions of potential options. They needed a dynamic simulation environment for interactively assessing, planning, and optimizing complex treatments before administering them to patients. The vendor, Franz Inc., provided their Allegro CL development environment to build this solution.

Franz Inc.'s Allegro CL enabled the development of the Prism treatment planning system, which uses a dynamic, object-oriented design to create a flexible and direct user interface. Prism allows clinicians to visualize and manipulate all radiation beams simultaneously and modify treatment parameters on the fly. The result is a highly adaptable tool that has been in use since 1994, allowing the clinic to rapidly extend features and efficiently maintain the application to meet evolving treatment needs.
