Test Generator Software for Microprocessor Design Verification

Advanced Micro Devices, a leading global supplier of integrated circuits, needed a fast, flexible way to generate sophisticated tests to verify complex microprocessor designs. To speed development and improve verification, AMD built its internal test generator, Luther, using Allegro CL from Franz Inc.

Franz Inc.’s Allegro CL provided an object‑oriented environment with an optimizing compiler, dynamic start/stop debugging, profiling tools, and portable source code, enabling AMD to develop much faster and tune performance. The result: development time was cut to about one‑third of comparable C projects, the resulting tool runs roughly ten times faster, and it uncovers about six times as many bugs—delivering faster time‑to‑market and stronger verification for AMD.
