Signal Insurance of Dortmund, Germany needed a way for its sales representatives to explain complex, non-visible insurance products and calculate premiums and benefit analyses directly at customer sites. To support this challenge, the company used Franz Inc.’s Allegro CL-based information system on laptop PCs for its on-the-road sales force.

Franz Inc. implemented the SIGNAL expert system as a knowledge-based application that provides policy, deadline, and asset information, while also computing premiums, drafting offers, and performing benefit analyses. The system was deployed to about 400 sales reps and scheduled for rollout to 500 more, and despite its complexity it ran smoothly on notebook PCs with 8 MB RAM; Franz Inc. also helped Signal Insurance incorporate user feedback quickly and shorten development cycles.
