Reasoning Systems - Customer Case Study

Reasoning Systems, Inc. used Franz Inc.’s Allegro CL to build Reasoning/2000, a software analysis, reengineering, and transformation system designed to help Fortune 1000 companies address the Year 2000 (Y2K) problem. The challenge was enormous: automatically identifying and correcting date-related defects across billions of lines of legacy COBOL code under tight deadlines.

Franz Inc. provided the development environment that let Reasoning Systems treat programs as data, use dynamic object-oriented capabilities, and rapidly parse, analyze, and transform COBOL source into compliant code. The result was a highly scalable system that could automatically find and fix Y2K defects and support broader modernization tasks; Reasoning reported operating centers in Palo Alto and Boston that together could transform 200 million lines of code per year per center.
