PricewaterhouseCoopers Develops Audit Expert System with Allegro CL

PricewaterhouseCoopers worked with Franz Inc. to address the challenge of speeding up and improving audit planning and business process analysis. The firm needed a knowledge-based system that could help audit professionals determine the right procedures for a given company more efficiently. Franz Inc.’s Allegro CL was used as the development platform for these applications, including the Planet audit planning system and the Comet modeling and analysis tool.

Using Franz Inc.’s Allegro CL and CLOS, PricewaterhouseCoopers built Planet in about one-third of the time originally expected. The solution supported rapid prototyping and incremental changes, allowing the system to evolve quickly with input from audit experts and users. As a result, Planet reduced audit planning time dramatically, from several weeks to as little as one day, while Comet also enabled structured flowchart-based analysis of business processes and internal controls.
