Harvard Children’s Hospital Informatics Program Lisp and SNPer help biologists speed up the data analysis process

Children's Hospital Informatics Program faced the challenge of making sense of massive genomic datasets — moving beyond data identification to fast, scalable analysis of SNPs (single nucleotide polymorphisms) and other large bioinformatics data. To address this, they worked with Franz Inc., using Allegro CL (Common Lisp) as the development platform for their tools.

Franz Inc. provided Allegro CL (used to build the SNPper application) running on GNU/Linux with MySQL, enabling SNPper to greatly speed up SNP analysis and handle analysis across millions of known SNPs and large microarray datasets. The Allegro CL/Lisp combination delivered the stability, performance, and development productivity the team needed, accelerating researchers’ workflows and supporting more scalable computational biology tools; Franz Inc.’s technology was central to these gains.
