Silk - Customer Case Study

Silk, an Amsterdam startup founded in 2010, builds a structured content management application that helps users—especially PR agencies—organize, visualize and query linked and tagged data. Facing rapid growth and limited staff, Silk needed to prototype quickly, handle large datasets and transactions, modify test environments without disturbing users, and deliver a robust, scalable backend that could move to production seamlessly.

Silk adopted Haskell (using SNAP and Happstack) for its strong static typing, pure functional design, rich libraries and STM, which reduced debugging and made parallelism and code reuse easier. The result was an error‑resistant, highly scalable web application that saved hundreds of testing hours, let the team focus on innovation, and launched in roughly half the time it would have taken with traditional tools.
