The City of Wuppertal Optimizes Its Document-based Processes

The City of Wuppertal faced slow, cumbersome handling of massive PDF-based records as it advanced its eFile and eGovernment initiatives. After digitizing millions of pages into its d.3ecm document management system, some files grew as large as 400 MB, making opening, navigating, and editing painfully slow. To solve this, the city turned to Foxit Software and its PDF Compressor.

Foxit Software implemented PDF Compressor with OCR and tight integration into d.3ecm to compress scanned and digital documents, make them full-text searchable, and convert files to PDF/A where needed. The results were significant: file sizes were reduced from 400 MB to 40 MB while maintaining quality, processing times dropped, and hundreds of thousands of additional files were compressed across departments. Foxit Software also helped the city streamline emergency logs, employee documents, file merging, and a digital mailroom processing about 3,500 letters per day.
