Microform, a UK scanning and microfilming specialist with decades of experience, was tasked with preparing nearly 4 million records for the British Online Archives—large volumes of varied source material that needed preservation-quality scans, selective color capture for maps and images, full text-searchability, consistent metadata, and efficient file sizes for web delivery and long-term access.

To meet that challenge Microform used Foxit’s PDF Compressor to automate OCR, PDF/PDF‑A conversion and compression. The solution converted over four million pages in ten months (2–3 million in colour or greyscale), produced small, high-quality, searchable PDFs—about 500,000 of which were published to BOA—while streamlining throughput, improving customer satisfaction and supporting long-term accessibility.
