City of Erlangen uses Foxit’s PDF/A solutions to support long-term archiving and data compression for construction files

The City of Erlangen’s eGovernment Center needed a reliable, non‑proprietary way to archive a wide variety of electronic documents—especially data‑heavy construction files and large blueprints that must be kept for the life of a building—so they would remain accessible for 10+ years while reducing storage and network strain as the city moved from paper to digital workflows.

Erlangen selected Foxit PDF Compressor Enterprise to convert scans to the PDF/A standard and apply Foxit’s multi‑layer compression, with a dedicated compressor for large‑format scans and integration into the OTS Bau archive (and planned integration with the city’s eGov Suite DMS). The solution drastically reduced file sizes while preserving image and font quality, made historical records quickly searchable, and was endorsed by the city’s DMS project manager as practical and recommendable.
