Preview of the Japan Post Bank Case Study

Japan Post Bank registers 10 million app accounts in four years with Fourdigit

Japan Post Bank, a major financial institution in Japan used by a wide demographic, faced the challenge of shifting its customers from using traditional paper bankbooks at ATMs to a more convenient digital experience. Their existing internet banking app had a high barrier to entry due to a complex registration process. They engaged vendor Fourdigit to design a new, more accessible bankbook application to digitize customer touchpoints and reduce paper use.

Fourdigit conducted quantitative and qualitative research to define user needs and prioritize features for an MVP. They designed a simple, intuitive, and user-friendly UI/UX that minimized user discomfort with finance apps. The solution was promoted with a consistent marketing campaign. As a result, the app achieved 944 million registered accounts and a 14% monthly active rate, successfully acquiring users through the bank's own channels like ATMs and post offices without external media.
