A Foundry Case Study
Gulliver Studios faced the challenge of creating extensive and realistic visual effects for the 4K Netflix series Squid Game. The episodic nature of the show required them to manage a huge volume of shots quickly, with the difficulty of seamlessly blending practical sets with CG environments to make fictional locations appear real. The vendor Foundry provided its Nuke compositing software to help tackle this heavy-duty project.
Using Nuke, the team at Gulliver Studios developed an efficient pipeline where lead compositors created templates for key shots that were then shared to ensure consistency and quality across all sequences. This allowed a large number of artists to work simultaneously. Foundry's Nuke enabled them to handle complex 3D scenes, like the glass bridge, by using 2.5D environments to drastically reduce render times. The solution helped the studio complete the high-quality VFX work efficiently and without any major problems, contributing to the global success of the series.
