A Foundry Case Study
Framestore, a primary VFX vendor on Blade Runner 2049, faced the challenge of an increasingly ambitious and unpredictable production scope. This required them to work more intelligently, relying on non-destructive workflows to output iterations that kept pace with demanding deadlines and constant artistic changes on hero assets and environments.
To meet this challenge, Framestore used Foundry's Mari as their main texturing workhorse. The software's ability to handle enormous amounts of geometry without lag and its versatile toolset that mixes procedural and bespoke paint work were essential. This solution allowed artists to work efficiently, significantly cutting down on map iterations and enabling them to maintain a healthy work-life balance with minimal overtime, all while delivering the detailed, high-quality texturing required for the film's visually arresting aesthetic.
