Digital Domain delivers 800+ TRON shots with Foundry

Digital Domain faced the significant challenge of creating a dark, reflective stereoscopic 3D universe for the film TRON: Legacy. This required them to overcome complex production issues, including pulling together numerous elements and effects, managing a shallow depth of field from the live-action plates, and correcting intricate color and reflection disparities between the left and right eyes of the stereo footage.

Foundry's compositing tool Nuke provided the foundation for the studio's pipeline, enabling seamless stereo work and easy collaboration with global partners. Foundry also worked directly with Digital Domain to refine its Ocula toolset, specifically the ColorMatcher, to more accurately fix the unique color issues presented by the film's shiny, reflective environments. This close collaboration resulted in a highly productive workflow where artists could complete final stereo versions of shots in just a few days, delivering over 800 of the film's visual effects shots.

Digital Domain
