Digital Domain creates four Chafa character assets with Foundry

Digital Domain, a visual effects studio, faced the unique challenge of creating highly accurate digital doubles and a 3D environment for the culturally significant opening sequence of Marvel's 'Echo'. Their task was to texture CG elements that would seamlessly blend with live-action footage and properly portray the Choctaw characters, requiring precision to match real-life subjects. They utilized Foundry's texturing software, Mari, to meet this challenge.

The solution implemented with Foundry's Mari involved using photo projection to create 1:1 textures from high-resolution actor scans. This process allowed artists to quickly correct flaws, blend textures, and make on-the-fly color adjustments, streamlining the workflow. As a result, Digital Domain efficiently created four highly detailed character assets, enabling them to bring the birth of Chafa to life with visual fidelity and cultural authenticity for the series.
