Blur Studio streamlines 2,500-frame Deadpool title sequence with Foundry

Blur Studio faced the significant challenge of creating the complex, photorealistic opening title sequence for the film Deadpool. This nearly two-minute-long shot required seamlessly integrating numerous visual elements and assets during a continuous camera pull-back, all while accommodating last-minute creative changes. To achieve this, they utilized Foundry's Nuke and NukeX compositing software.

Foundry's solution was implemented through Nuke's deep compositing tools. This provided Blur Studio with a flexible workflow that saved substantial time; they could easily add or remove rendered assets without re-rendering entire scenes or creating holdout mattes. The result was the successful creation of the iconic title sequence and other VFX shots for the film, with Sebastien Chort of Blur Studio noting that the deep compositing process brought needed flexibility and could be a game-changer for studios.
