BASEBLACK contributes more shots than any other vendor to Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows with Foundry

The customer, BASEBLACK, a boutique VFX house working on "Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows," faced the challenge of creating realistic, large-scale textures for complex 3D assets like Dumbledore's Tomb without relying on standard texturing cues or the need to constantly use Photoshop. They sought a more efficient 3D painting solution to handle these high-resolution textures directly on the mesh.

Foundry provided its Mari software, a 3D paint application that allowed BASEBLACK's artists to work with massive textures in a 3D environment on multiple meshes at once. The solution's live projectors and linear pipeline support enabled the team to see results from different angles instantly, streamlining their workflow. As a result, BASEBLACK was able to contribute more shots to the film than any other vendor and found Mari straightforward to learn and significantly improving their texturing process.
