A Fotoware Case Study
The Queensland Museum, a major Australian cultural institution, faced the challenge of managing and providing access to its vast collection of 1.5 million artifacts for diverse audiences, including the public, researchers, and internal staff. To enhance sustainability and streamline collection management, they sought a digital solution to organize, share, and preserve their digital assets, moving beyond inefficient physical and ad-hoc digital handling.
Implementing the Fotoware digital asset management solution, the museum created specialized portals for different user groups: a Staff Portal, a Public Portal, and a Research Portal. Fotoware provided the flexibility for customization, user-friendly access, and critical integration with their collection management system via API. This solution significantly reduced duplicate work and physical handling of assets, saving staff time and supporting the museum's sustainability goals by allowing digital images to be reused. Fotoware also enabled wider public engagement and provided researchers with valuable tools, including access to 3D assets.
