Case Study: Financial Times streamlines image rights management with Fotoware

A Fotoware Case Study

Preview of the Financial Times Case Study

How Digital Asset Management helps the world's leading business publication stay on top of image rights and avoid infringements

The Financial Times, a leading global business publication, faced significant challenges in managing its vast archive of over 1.5 million images and the 10,000+ new images it received daily. Their old system provided limited access to only a few staff in London, creating inefficiency and a high risk of image rights infringements, which could have expensive consequences. To address this, they turned to Fotoware for a Digital Asset Management (DAM) solution.

Fotoware implemented a cloud-based DAM system on AWS, democratizing access for 150 global staff and integrating with their content management system. This allowed journalists to self-serve images, dramatically speeding up the publishing workflow. Crucially, Fotoware’s metadata capabilities provided clear visual markers for image rights, preventing infringements. The solution also eliminated insecure FTP transfers and automated metadata tagging. As a result, the Financial Times halved its support costs and gained full control over its digital assets with Fotoware.
